RSBS GENERATION 3 SOFT STARTER: REDUCE SINGLE PHASE COMPRESSOR START CURRENT BY >50%

No more light flicker and voltage disturbances due to reduced compressor starting current.

Lainate, May 2020 - Carlo Gavazzi Automation, the international electronics group with activities in the design, manufacture and marketing of electronic equipment, today presents its new scroll compressor soft starter.

The RSBS is a compact soft starter for single phase compressors with operational current up to 32 AAC. It is a known fact that single phase voltage networks are prone to voltage fluctuations. When starting a single phase compressor, the inrush current can be as high as 5 to 6 times the compressor rated current. These high starting currents can create annoying disturbances including light flickering, tripping of fuses, stalling of generators.

The RSBS uses a current limiting algorithm to reduce the compressor starting current by more than 50%, when compared to a direct on line (DOL) start. The control algorithm automatically detects when the compressor reaches full speed to make sure that the internal bypass relay switches ON when the current is at an optimum level. A special function ensures that the compressor gets enough starting torque even when the starting pressures are not equalised.

“By using the new RSBS soft starter we can avoid high starting currents on compressors, that could cause several disturbances and adverse effects to adjacent equipment and may also cause annoyances to the occupants of the building,” Jason Demicoli, International Product Manager, says. “This launch will give us the opportunity to strengthen Carlo Gavazzi’s role in the HVAC market, particularly heat pumps.”

IO-LINK MASTERS Y SERIES: IIOT-ENABLED NETWORK BLOCKS FOR DIGITAL INDUSTRIAL TRANSFORMATION

The new Y series is available in two mechanical versions: the YL212 for machine installation has a fully encapsulated housing for use in harsh environmental conditions and integrates the future-proof L-coded M12 power connector for higher current in more compact dimensions, compared to the 7/8” standard. The YN115 DIN rail version for control cabinet installation includes pluggable/removable push-in and screw terminal connectors for a quick and error-proof installation of the IO-Link devices and module.

YL212 and YN115 fully support the industry's leading Ethernet protocols, such as EtherNet/IP™, PROFINET IO, and MODBUS TCP. In addition, the integrated OPC UA protocol allows simultaneous access to the data of the attached smart devices from the PLC and via OPC UA clients, with a reliable, continuous and transparent data flow from the sensors into cloud-based systems.

RM1D: THE NEW DC SWITCHING SOLID STATE RELAYS

Increased ratings up to 100 ADC, high switching frequency and low power dissipation output mosfets.

DC output solid state relays are used for switching loads supplied with a DC voltage. Typical loads include heating elements, electric valves, fans and solenoids.

Unlike mechanical relays, solid state relays have a very long life, are silent in operation and can achieve very fast switching response times. In addition, they are more immune to vibration and shocks since they are fully solid state and there is no arcing or bouncing of contacts that is typical with mechanical relays. These characteristics make DC solid state relays the preferred and ideal choice for switching of DC loads.

Apart from higher current ratings that now extend the range to 100 ADC, new features include higher switching frequency, lower switching losses with faster response times to switch ON and OFF, improved thermal performance with low power dissipation mosfets, LED indication for control voltage presence and the removal of the potting compound to remove mechanical stress on internal components.

DIA02: LOAD ON/OFF RELAY

The solution for a prompt ON/OFF status of small critical loads.

In Building Automation and HVAC markets there is often the need to know the running status of small pumps and fans, as their failure may cause costly consequences.

The DIA02 is a current level relay with a very low minimum setpoint to monitor the status of small loads down to 20 mA. It mainly monitors the ON/OFF status of pumps and fans.

When the devices don’t work as expected, the DIA02 immediately warns the main controller (PLC or Building Management System) to reduce the consequences and speed-up the recovery time.

The HDMS is a revolutionary motor starter for single phase scroll compressors and submersible pumps.
Its unique design and control algorithm provide a solution whereby the traditional start capacitor will no longer be required. This feature is of high value to our customers because start capacitors are the components with the highest failure rates in single phase applications.

The HDMS offers a remarkable current reduction, reducing the motor starting current by an average of 70% when compared to Direct on line (DOL) starters. This makes the HDMS the ideal solution for applications where the power is limited, such as loads driven by generators or electrical inverters.

LD30 SERIES: PHOTOELECTRIC LASER SENSORS WITH INTEGRATED IO-LINK COMMUNICATION

Accurate detection and long sensing range in a compact housing.

Lainate, January 2020 - Carlo Gavazzi Automation, the international electronics group with activities in the design, manufacture and marketing of electronic equipment, today presents its new series of IO-Link photoelectric laser sensors, the LD30.

These new laser sensors’ main feature is the background suppression based on the Time of Flight (ToF) sensing principle. With a sensing range of up to 1,000 mm for both black and white objects, the background suppression has been increased four times compared to previous versions, in a very compact housing. The IO-Link connections enable, among other attributions, the read-out of the actual sensing distance.

The family consists on 4 sensor types, in either plastic or stainless steel AISI316L housings, and every sensor can be configured in more than half a million combinations.

“The LD30 sensors have been developed to operate in IO-Link environments, where the sensing performance needs to be monitored and logged. SBB4I SERIES: THE NEW MODULES TO CONTROL FIRE DAMPERS IN HVAC APPLICATIONS

Fast installation, considerable cost savings and BACnet integration for direct connection to BMS.

These modules have been developed to control the different types of fire dampers available on the market.

The SBB4I is a 4-input module to be connected to two fire dampers with thermal fuses to detect their blades position.The second is the SBB4I2Oxxx, a 4-input/2-output module to also be connected to two fire dampers to detect their blades position and, in addition, to control them when they are equipped with a return-spring or motors.

“Fire dampers are mandatory and are used to prevent smoke from spreading through the buildings ventilation system in the case of fire. With this launch we are able to provide customers with a dedicated solution offering a bus-based system which reduces the cabling cost to 15%,” Raffaella Sirena International Product Manager says. “Usually in a building system dozens of modules are installed. Via our specific configuration software, it is possible to speed up the programming of the fire damper modules, resulting in an efficient and time saving procedure”.
